The rapid increase in the use of strong prescription and non-prescription painkillers in the U.S. and Canada since the late 1990s has led to today’s opioid epidemic. Opioids, which include OxyContin, Percocet, Vicodin, and fentanyl, can cause respiratory failure and death in high doses. Mississippi is well on its way to becoming known as the most addicted state in the country. Today’s panelists will discuss opportunities and ideas for curbing this crisis.
