Don't miss this hour of live music perfect for Valentine's Day. Rich and surprising, the combination of trumpet, trombone, and piano is not traditional, but it works. The featured composers wrote for brass soloists, and "extending that compositional style to two brass players is a logical step -- making possible a wider range of timbres while still retaining a soloistic quality," says Micah Everett, UM Music Professor and head of the UM Low Brass Studio. "Jan Koetsier's music is particularly entertaining. He writes extremely well for brass, and manages to always write music that is serious, but with a bit of humor, almost as if he is winking at the listener."
The Brass and Ivory Trio are Richard Rulli, Cory Mixdorf, and Miroslava Panayotova, performing on trumpet, trombone, and piano, respectively. All three teach in the music department at the University of Arkansas.
