Associate Professor Dr. Adam Estes has put together a program of trios, duets, and solos with a variety of instruments and a range of musical styles that will take the listener from the traditional to the new. Performing sometimes on saxophone and sometimes on bassoon, Estes will be joined by Adrienne Park on piano, Michael Rowlett on clarinet, Stacy Rodgers on piano, and new faculty members Nave Graham on flute and Austin Smith on oboe.
The program opens and closes with traditional chamber music -- first, a lush, romantic piece by Mikhail Glinka for clarinet, piano, and bassoon; then, at the end, a piece by Francis Poulenc for oboe, bassoon, and piano that is full of incredible themes and rhythmic vitality to showcase the range of these woodwinds.
In between are two pieces for saxophone and piano by contemporary composers with whom Estes has worked before -- Marilyn Shrude and François Rossé -- and a piece for bass flute and baritone sax by Marcos Balter that uses key-clicks, air sounds, and percussive sounds to create a unique musical atmosphere.
