LMR Live host Nancy Maria Balach interviews esteemed folklorist William Ferris, founding director of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture and author of the Grammy award-winning box set, Voices of Mississippi: Artists and Musicians Documented by William Ferris.
Musician and tradition-bearer Shardé Thomas of the Rising Star Fife and Drum Band joins the show, as does blues scholar Scott Barretta, for a conversation about music, art, and storytelling in Mississippi – and how these voices from across the decades speak to our moment today.
This online-only episode of LMR Live will stream live at 1:00 on Monday, September 13th, via livingmusicresource.com, and will be available afterwards on the archive section of the site. The episode is produced in collaboration with the Center for the Study of Southern Culture.
Music 100 credit available.
A multi-media concert event based on Ferris work, Voices of Mississippi, is slated for Tuesday, September 14th in the Gertrude C. Ford Center for Performing Arts.
