Child care is expensive: what resources are available to UM students, faculty, and staff to help pay those costs?
On Thursday, March 31st at 12:15, we're hosting a zoom session with Ms. Zaffron King. She will talk about the Mississippi Child Care Payment Plan, through which the state will pay a portion of parents' child care expenses. Any parent can apply – single, married, mother, father – if their income is not above $37,000 a year.
In addition, Ms. King will also talk about a program called Employment Equity for Single Mothers that provides additional support to single moms, including bridge funding for child care while the state processes the single mother's application, which can take up to 90 days. EESM provides other support and services to single moms, as well.
EESM is a program of the MS Low-Income Child Care Initiative, a nonprofit organization, and Ms. King is an EESM Case Manager with MLICCI. She's a fantastic resource for solving problems and connecting single moms to additional resources.
Since Ms. King will talk a bit about the Mississippi Child Care Payment Program, all parents are invited to the zoom. She will also talk about EESM, which specifically addresses the needs of single moms, so the session will be of particular interest to single mothers.
The Zoom meeting is Thursday 3/31 at 12:15 pm. Meeting ID: 946 9624 5500
