The Center for Civil War Research and UM History Department invite you to attend the 2023 Conference on the Civil War (a Porter Fortune Symposium). The conference, "The Passage of the Armies: Soldiers, Civilians, and the Enslaved in the Civil War and Reconstruction," will explore encounters between soldiers and noncombatants in the Civil War era.
We are excited to be hosting a roundtable discussion featuring Andrew Lang (Mississippi State), Barton Myers (Washington & Lee), and Amy Murrell Taylor (University of Kentucky) on Thursday, October 12, at 4:30pm in the Butler Auditorium of the Triplett Alumni Center. On Friday, October 13, Bill Blair of Penn State will deliver the keynote address: "The Union Army and the Limits of Presidential Power in the Civil War." This will be at 6pm in the Student Union Auditorium (room 124). From Thursday afternoon to Saturday morning, panels of scholars will present in the Butler Auditorium.
