The second concert of the Faculty Recital Series features clarinetist Michael Rowlett and pianist Stacy Rodgers, performing a colorful selection of pieces inspired by popular music. The program includes a sonata for clarinet and piano by contemporary American composer Kenji Bunch. TitledCookbook, Bunch’s work will be performed alongside a short film by Joe York, featuring images from his work with the Southern Foodways Alliance.
The recital will also include a performance of X, a concerto for clarinet by Scott McAllister that was inspired by Seattle “grunge” music, particularly the songs of Nirvana. The program is rounded out with a suite of music originally written for the BBC television program “The Victorian Kitchen Garden” and Argentine composer Carlos Guastavino’s lyrical Tonada y Cueca.
