UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES


The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Dr. McCain joined the faculty at Texas State University in 2010 where he directs the Trombone Choir and Jazz Trombone Ensembles. Under his direction, the Trombone Choir and Jazz Trombone Ensembles have been invited to perform at the International Trombone Festival, Eastern Trombone Workshop, Big 12 Trombone Conference and Texas Music Educators Association Convention on numerous occasions. Dr. McCain’s students have also been successful in solo and ensemble competitions including the International Trombone Association competitions, the Eastern Trombone Workshop competitions and the Big 12 Trombone Solo Competitions. In recognition for his teaching, McCain was the nominee for the Presidential Award of Excellence in Teaching for the School of Music and Runner-up for the College of Fine Arts and Communications.  Dr. McCain is also the founder/director of the Texas State Trombone Symposium.

 

McCain holds degrees from The University of Texas at Austin (D.M.A. and M.M.) and The University of Southern Mississippi (B.M.). His primary teachers are Nathaniel Brickens, Marta Hofacre, Greg Luscombe and Loy Hetrick. He has also received instruction from Charles Villarubia, Stefan Sanders, Doug Yeo, Randy Hawes, and Charles Vernon.

 

McCain was a prize - winner at the International Trombone Festival and Eastern Trombone Workshop competitions as a soloist and ensemble musician.  He can be heard on his debut EP ”Trombone Czar: Russian Treasures Recorded Live!” and upcoming solo CD “Shades” on the Kairoi Music label.

 

 

Martin McCain is an artist/clinician for Michael Rath Instruments and plays on the “McCain” signature model mouthpiece manufactured by Pickett Brass. He is also an affiliate of AirTurn, Inc.
