Are you interested in starting your own business, but don’t know where to begin?  This seminar outlines the basic steps to start a business.  Topics include: regulations such as licenses and permits; legal forms of business ownership; basic marketing concepts to help analyze the revenue potential; lending terminology; outline for a business plan and other resources to assist in starting a business.

Pre—registration is required to ensure adequate  supplies are available for all participants.

UMSBDC  is a member of the Mississippi Small Business Development Centers (MSBDC) network.  MSBDC has assisted Mississippi businesses since 1981.

Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made if requested at least two weeks in advance.

"The Nutcracker" is the charming holiday story of Clara, a young girl who makes a fantastic journey with the help of her Nutcracker Prince. Swirling snowflakes, the Sugarplum Fairy and Tchaikovsky's famous score make this an audience favorite.

Steven Skultety, assistant professor of philosophy, delivers the lecture "Disputes of the Phronimoi: Aristotle on Ethical and Political Disagreement." He will argue that Aristotle's conception of ethics allows for agents of outstanding virtue to disagree and dispute with one another about which action should be performed in a given situation. After arguing that Aristotle's account of prudence makes disagreement possible in theory, Skultety will argue that Aristotelian political science anticipates frequent dispute in judicial and legislative venues among ideal citizens.

Porgy and Bess is recognized as an American masterpiece. It's a story that intertwines pride, prejudice, pathos and passion through a jazz and blues influenced score. Based on the DuBose Heyward novel set in Charleston’s famed Catfish Row, Porgy and Bess tells the moving story of Porgy, a cripple who witnesses a murder during a dice game and later gives shelter to the murderer’s woman, the beautiful, haunted Bess. Originally billed as a folk opera, Porgy and Bess introduced classic Gershwin songs including “Summertime,” “I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’” and “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” as well as magnificent and enthralling choruses that stunned music and drama critics alike at its premiere in 1935.
