In this class, participants make a byzantine bracelet from argentium sterling silver. Tools are furnished, or participants can bring their own. Participants will use two sets of pliers — either two that are comfortable — out of bent nose, chain nose or flat nose pliers.
Class is limited to 10 people.

Mon, November 30, 2009 - Art Exhibit: 'Walter Anderson and World Literature'

An exhibit of work by Mississippi native Walter Anderson, one of America's greatest artists. The exhibit opened during the 16th annual Oxford Conference for the Book, which celebrated Anderson's life and work. It will remain open through January. The public is welcome to view the exhibit during regular library hours: 1 p.m.—2 a.m. Sunday, 7 a.m.—2 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m.—7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.—6 p.m. Saturday.

UM's Blues Archive, housed in the J.D. Williams Library, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. A public exhibition in Archives and Special Collections features material from many of the archived collections, including B.B. King, Sheldon Harris, Kenneth Goldstein, Trumpet Records, Living Blues magazine, Percy Mayfield and The Red Tops. Using portable audio/video players available onsite, visitors touring the elaborate display will be able to hear musical selections and view interviews with blues recording artists. Scheduled for a yearlong run, the exhibition is free and open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Displayed items will rotate throughout the year.

The Mockingbird Early Music Ensemble presents its annual Christmas concert featuring a guest vocal ensemble performing beautiful music of the 16th and 17th centuries. The ensemble, directed by Laurdella Foulkes—Levy and David Warren Steel, includes both students and faculty, and specializes in the interpretation of European music before 1700.

Shirley Jones will perform some of her most memorable songs from the many movie musicals in which she starred over her career, including Music Man, Oklahoma and Carousel. Performing with Jones is The Hollywood Concert Orchestra, an ensemble of America’s finest musicians, which is rapidly becoming one of the premier ensembles in the world.

The evening includes a Friends of the Ford Center reception.
