Free recital by noted pianist Richard Masters.
In this salute to the irrepressible Australian-American pianist Percy Grainger, visiting artist Richard Masters explores the delightful music of Grainger and some of his friends. From the demanding and dramatic Chaconne in D minor by Bach (arranged by Grainger's teacher Ferruccio Busoni) to the lush harmonies of Frederick Delius and Roger Quilter, we visit with Grainger’s most important contemporaries and ultimately hear their influence on his music. Also included will be the Mississippi premiere of “Folk Tune,” a short piano work by British composer Ian Venables (b. 1955). Grainger’s tuneful, folk-inspired melodies will have you tapping your toe during the show and whistling on the way out the door.
A recital at 7:30 in the evening, and a master class at 1:00 in the afternoon.
Eligible for Mus100/103 credit.
