Faculty Approaches to Critical Thinking Workshop

Please mark your calendar for 15 August 2019 for our first Faculty Approaches to Critical Thinking workshop.

What role does critical thinking play in developing well-educated college graduates? How do UM students’ critical thinking abilities rate on a national level? How is critical thinking seen by your discipline? Where does critical thinking already exist in your classroom, and how could you strengthen it?

We will be joined by national experts in critical thinking, Drs. Peter Facione and Carol Gittens for a day-long interactive experience focused on the roles of critical thinking in learning and life. The goals of this workshop will be expanding our repertoire of critical thinking teaching strategies, preparing ourselves to communicate why critical thinking is important, and connecting critical thinking in academia to critical thinking as applied more broadly in life and careers.

This workshop is the first in an annual series of summer workshops dedicated to exploring the role of critical thinking in the academy, our culture, and our classrooms. As part of Think Forward, the 2019 Quality Enhancement Plan, FACT workshops will play a critical role in strengthening our approaches to teaching for critical thinking. During the event opportunities for upcoming grants for enhancing critical thinking pedagogy will be introduced.

RSVP opportunities will be sent at a later date, and catering will be provided throughout the event.

Please save 15 August 2019 on your calendar!
