Working with Mr. Satan: A Personal Introduction to the Blues

The Department of Archives & Special Collections invites you to an online Brown Bag featuring professor of English and Southern Studies, Dr. Adam Gussow.

This discussion will trace the course of Gussow's 45-year career as a blues performer and how a long partnership with guitarist and singer, Sterling "Mr. Satan" Magee, shaped his career. Their musical collaboration is the subject of Satan & Adam, an award-winning documentary currently streaming on Netflix. Gussow will also reflect on the Deep South origins of the music and the essential elements that make the blues a central part of the American cultural experience.
