Dr. Betancourt will discuss themes relating to his new book, "Byzantine Intersectionality: Sexuality, Gender, and Race in the Middle Ages" (Princeton University Press). The audience need not be experts in Byzantine history to appreciate the discussion, as Dr. Betancourt will raise questions about... "sexual and reproductive consent, bullying and slut-shaming, homosocial and homerotic relationships, trans and nonbinary gender identities and depictions of racialized minorities" (book cover)
Please contact Dr. Mary Thurlkill (maryt@olemiss.edu) to participate in reading groups scheduled to review some of his writings before the presentation.
