FRESH AND CLEAN is a novel interested in vaginal cleanliness as a cultural obsession. Imlay, the youngest of two, leaves home, goes to college, and finds work at a major consumer goods corporation headquartered in Detroit. Imlay’s development of a new line of feminine hygiene cleansers and sprays leads to a leadership position where she uncovers an insidious corporate secret.  

Imlay becomes the epitome of success and upward mobility in her hometown of Ojibwe, but her professional accomplishments are blighted by her mother’s death. She turns to organic chemistry as her sister takes on caring for their grief-stricken father who is living in a hoarder house. In her search for consumer justice and closure for her family and the working-class community of Ojibwe, Imlay finds herself grappling with her own hazardous hygiene obsession.
