Join the William Magee Institute and School of Journalism on Monday, November 6th at 7:00 PM for a panel discussion with three photojournalists, a recovery specialist, and Dr. Nick McAfee, the Director of the William Magee Center for AOD and Wellness Education. This panel discussion will be held in Overby Center room 147, and a small reception will be held afterward for individuals to mingle and view the exhibit.
Art, Media, Research, and Advocacy: What Shapes Public Opinion and Drug Policy?
Drug use and addiction have long been treated as a crime in the U.S., but with record numbers of people dying of overdoses and prescription medications implicated in many of those deaths, attitudes are beginning to shift. Panelists will discuss how art, media, research, and advocacy can influence how we respond to problematic drug and alcohol use—through treatment, harm reduction, and recovery support—and help people rebuild their lives after addiction.
