UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES

The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

R versus Python

 

R and Python are both open programming languages popular among researchers. For new users, it can be difficult to know which language to choose. For users who are familiar with one language, it can be tricky to understand the nuances when switching to the other. In this workshop, we will introduce the ways in which Python and R are similiar and how they diverge. We will discuss parallel packages, differences in indexing, and shared and divergent vocabulary. 

Attendees who wish to follow along on their own computers are encouraged to download RStudio (for R) and/or Spyder (for Python).
