UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES


The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Famine & the Responsibility of the Empire

Lectures: Yan Slobodkin, author of 'The Starving Empire', will visit The Croft Institute to speak on Famine and the Responsibility of the Empire.

Yan Slobodkin is a historian of Modern Europe with a focus on French colonialism, transnational humanitarianism, and the history of global medicine and public health.
His book The Starving Empire is a history of famine in France’s colonies in the 19th
and 20th centuries, touching on questions of race science, humanitarian ethics, and
transnationalism. His talk on Wednesday, February 28th will include time for audience questions.
