The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Session 1: March 20, Intro to GIS and Geospatial Data 

In Part 1 of this Introduction to GIS series, learn key terms and concepts of GIS (geographic information systems), geospatial data, and how GIS methods and software can enhance your teaching and research.  

Session 2: March 27, Finding Geospatial Data Online and/or Building Your Own Data 

In Part 2 of this Introduction to GIS series, learn how to search for geospatial data online using both library subscriptions and open resources. This session will also cover how to generate geospatial data from your own research interests or preexisting datasets.

Session 3: April 3, Managing Geospatial Data 

In Part 3 of this Introduction to GIS series, learn the ins and outs of managing geospatial data, including data organization, the importance of metadata, and basic data preservation. 

Session 4: April 10, Designing ArcGIS StoryMaps & Other Online GIS Projects 

In Part 4 of this Introduction to GIS series, we will learn how to set up ArcGIS online accounts and build an interactive map that takes your data from spreadsheet to story. 

Session 5: April 17, Designing Maps with GIS Software: Part 1 

In Part 5 of this Introduction to GIS series, dive into the fundamentals of ArcGIS Pro and learn the basics of building a well-designed map. 

Session 6: April 24, Designing Maps with GIS Software: Part 2 and/or Future-proof your project 

In Part 6 of this Introduction to GIS series, we will continue learning how to build a dynamic and custom map using ArcGIS Pro. To end the series, we will discuss long-term planning for your GIS projects to extend the life of your map and your research.
