Looking for an opportunity to serve, make a change, and be the change? Attend the Kickoff of UM's newly formed student organization, Serving Children of Incarcerated Parents (SCIP) ! Come and here the stories of UM students who have or had incarcerated parents. Listen to others about the work being performed to serve this population. Get involved with this organization to make a difference in the lives of others, while enriching yours!
The speciific purpsoes of this club are as follows:
- To promote the importance of personal involvement in the lives of children and youth whose parent(s) are incarcerated to help them reach their fullest potential
- To recruit, identify, equip, and activate university students to become effective one on one mentors for children and youth in the community who are affected by parental incarceration
- To work in conjunction with area agencies, churches, schools, and civic organizations to provide at the local level specific mentoring relationships to assist children achieving the goals set for them by their teachers, leaders, and parents.
